HIGH POINT, NC - Beeson Hardware Company celebrating 125 years
As one of the first hardware stores started by Newell Beeson in the late eighteen hundreds, Beeson opened on the 200 block on Main Street in downtown High Point, 1883. Beeson opened as a horse and buggy, harness and farm supply general hardware store. Customer base consisted of farmers and local residents. In 1925 Beeson established a finish hardware department which was the first of its kind in the area and set the foundation for their current business model.
Today Beeson Hardware Company has expanded to cover not only the local Triad builder, but national sales distribution through the decorative wholesale division and their internet sales. Product lines expand over four divisions; Lumber, Contract Sales, Industrial Division, Decorative Hardware & Plumbing covering home and commercial building products such as lumber, building supplies, 3M industrial supplies and hundreds of decorative cabinet, door, kitchen and bath hardware as well as sinks, kitchen and bath facets and toilets.
Surviving in the builder industry for 125 years has had its challenges including big box competitors. Beeson defense to big box competition was to distinguish itself through personalized service, offering product lines not offered in big box merchants and by devising niches based from customer needs. Beeson is also widely involved in the builder community. Being a part of the community and not just having a location in a community has helped business. Beeson is active in local civic organizations, the High Point Chamber and the Triad Builder Associations. Giving back to the community has been part of their vision statement since its inception.
Beeson diversified within the building industry by developing customized product lines based on their customers’ needs. Customized millwork includes, ‘The Door Shop’ where Beeson Hardware manufactures fully assembled interior doors and delivers to the local job site. Additional customized manufactured items include custom shutters targeted to the higher end home builder. Their millwork customization also extends to manufacture ring of interior wood stair units.
In 2001 Beeson Hardware moved from their 2nd location since inception off Centennial Drive into their new corporate headquarters, 201 Sheffield Street, in 2006 Beeson Decorative completed their move next door to house their newly expanded showrooms for the lumber division and the decorative division respectively, enlarged lumber holding area and manufacture ring facility.
Currently Beeson is taking a strong position with environmental consciousness and conservation. Builder education provided by Beeson’s customer service reps are introducing new sustainable products to help builders achieve the certifications they need for green building. The green initiative was recognized at this year’s annual builders association where Beeson Hardware was recognized for promoting of green building products.
Beeson has become one of the most respected and oldest companies operating in High Point employing more than 100 employees. To find out more about Beeson Hardware go to www.beesonhardware.com.
